ANA Sports Council

Hope you are getting ready for the National Championships at the ANA Convention. We have a great news and update. We are working with the Boston Park Plaza Hotel to arrange more accommodations; nearly 600 rooms have been booked already.  No previous ANA convention has sold out this many rooms this early, so go figure. If you are not in Boston on July 4th, you will truly be missing LARGEST ANA Convention ever.

It is well known that ANA Sports has brought together our communities over a decade, coincidentally starting for! mally with 1997 ANA Boston Convention. Due to request of many of you ANA Sports Council has been formed. Its primary objectives are:
1. To give continuity to the annual National Championships of various sports
2.  Be the authoritative autonomous body to oversee all Nepali sporting activities in North America
3.  Make positive impact on our community through sportsmanship and bridge the generational divide
In order to have a smooth transition, the Boston ANA Convention Sports Committee has been setup as adhoc ANA Sports Council with permanent committee to be chosen by the sporting community at the Boston Convention. ANA Convention Sports
We are delighted to invite you to participate in this year’s ANA Sports Tournament.  As you know many of your friends and acquaintances in Boston are busy preparing for the ANA convention that is being held in Boston this year during the 4th of July weekend.

We have players coming from as far as LA & San Francisco and even from Canada.   We hope to share these fun times with you.  After all, what better way than sports to bring all of us Nepalis together?  So, please let your friends know, let your family know, and participate.  Registration closes early and vacancies are limited.  So, please register early.

Men’s Basketball

NEPCAN - ANA Presidential Award of Excellence 2010

Association of Nepalis in Americas proudly announces the initiation of second Presidential Award of Excellence, the NEPCAN award. ANA’s Presidential Award of Excellence is the highest recognition given out every year, starting 2009 to an individual or a group supporting the mission and vision of ANA benefiting Nepalis, NRNs, Nepali Americans, and Friends, in North America.
 
Two candidates won the award in 2009. The co-winners of NEPCAN 2009 were READ Global and its founder Dr. Antonia Neubauer, and Sagarmatha TV and its founder Mr. Ram C. Kharel.
 
READ Global and Dr. Antonia Neubauer
Dr. Antonia Neubauer is Founder and President of Myths and Mountains, Inc., a cultural travel company, located in Incline Village, Nevada. Focusing on Asia, Southeast Asia, Antarctica and South America, the company designs adventures that highlight cultures and crafts, religions and holy sites, folk medicine and traditional healing, wildlife and the environment.
 
Sagarmatha TV and Mr. Ram C. Kharel
Mr. Ram Kharel is the founder and producer of Sagarmatha Television based in Northern Virginia, suburb of Washington, DC. He has contributed to advancements of ANA objectives through the annual ANA conventions, ANA established Nepali Education and Cultural Center, ANA partner organizations, and various other Nepali Diaspora projects including active involvement in NRN activities of America.
 
A special honor program is soon going to be announced.
 
NEPCAN    2010
 
ANA Mission
 
¢  The purpose of the exclusively educational and charitable Association of Nepalis in the Americas is to promote preservation of Nepali identity and culture in the Americas, to foster cordial relations among Nepalis and Americans, and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the participation of Nepali-Americans in the communities they live in. ANA also promotes cultural, religious, linguistic, historical, and educational heritage of Nepal.
 
Eligibility
 
¢  Any individual or group from the Americas is eligible to be the recipient of this award.
¢  The recipient or group must not be a prior recipient of this award.
¢  ANA past presidents and current officers are not eligible for this award.
¢  Awardees must serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in their area of work/expertise.
 
Selection Process
 
¢  A committee comprising of the past presidents of ANA and the current officers will nominate the recipient from among the Diaspora.
¢  Nominations will have to accompany a detailed profile of the nominee(s) and description of the work performed by the nominee(s).
¢  The committee may decide to choose the recipient from the nominees at their discretion. Opinion polls and/or other methods may be used to find out the best candidate(s).
 
The Award
 
¢  The recipient(s) will receive a plaque and a cash award of $1500 . The cash award amount will be fixed and will be awarded to an individual or the group. The Award is scheduled to be announced at the Boston ANA Convention.
